Why do we live here?

That was the question I asked Steve this morning on our way to work. Normally, we do not drive to work together...but I picked him up after he got out yesterday so we could visit Jen and the baby. When we left the hospital, I was too tired to drive home by myself, so we decided to leave his truck at work and that I would go in early today to drop him off before coming to my office. It worked out nicely. Anyway, back to my point. It is SO friggin' cold outside. The wind is blowing all over the place. The sun is barely up in the morning, so I have to know, WHY do we live in such a state? If you think about it, we really only have warm weather 3 1/2 months out of 12 - that just does not cut it for me. See warm to me is 85 and above. I am cold at 80 and under. I am talking sweatshirt. I want to be in a tank top and capris ALL THE TIME. No more gloves, scarves, coats or boots. I mean, every morning I get all bundled up to sit in a freezing cold car. Then I get to work only to have to turn on my space heater. Only to turn back around at 4 pm and do it again. I can never get warm. I also mentioned to poor hubby that I might be OK with the damn cold if I could get some enjoyment out of it - like snow. But no. Instead, it's just cold. cold. cold.

***side note: Baby Ryan is adorable. I got to hold him. He is super tiny and perfect. Jen looks great and is very happy. Mark was home, so I did not get to see him, but hope to soon. Jen's Mom was there and she is on cloud 9!

We have a new Cousin!!

I am more than excited to announce that my cousins Mark & Jen welcomed Ryan Thomas into the world last night at 11:50 pm. I got the text message from Mark at 12:33 am and promptly woke up David to give him the news. He said a tired "that's great" and fell back to sleep. This morning he remembered that a baby boy was born, but asked me to tell him his name again. Too cute. I spoke to both Mark and Jen (aka Dad & Mom) and everyone is doing well. Steve and I plan on paying the new little family a visit on our way home from work. I can't wait to meet the little Man!

Lazy Monday

I had good intentions after work today, but got nothing done. No treadmill, no food shopping, no clean shower. UGH! I was SO exhausted from the weekend I just could not get it together. When I got home I cooked sausage and jumbalaya for dinner. After we ate, I gave David a bath and put clothes away that my Mom had washed (great Mom). I made an attempt at food shopping online thru PeaPod, but was not happy with the selection. I could not even find chicken nuggets! Next thing I knew - it was Ava's bedtime. The night seemed to fly by. Steve and I watched an episode of Criminal Minds that we DVR'd and I passed out on the couch. Looks as though I'll need to hit up the A&P on my way home tomorrow...

Dental Emergency

Where was I at 10:30 am? In the dentist's office with David. Yup. Another abcess. This poor baby boy of mine. Woke up this morning with a fever and a blown up face. One of the teeth he had filled on the bottom now has an abcess. Luckily, Dr. S was able to do some magic and he does not think David will lose this tooth. Thank God David is a good kid and VERY good dental patient. He was so very brave and well behaved. I hope this is the end of the dental problems, but at only 4 1/2 years of age, I highly doubt it.

Sleepless in Princeton

My Dad invited us to visit him at the Westin Hotel in Princeton today. He was going to be working there for ETS and thought the kids would enjoy the indoor pool and staying over night. We arrived a little after 3 pm and immediately prepared to go swimming. David could not wait. He had his swim suit on in 2.2 seconds. Poor little Ava had to wear her onzie - I do not have a suit that fits her ;( I was not going to be seen in a swim suit in late January as pale and out of shape as I am. Thank goodness Steve is a trooper! Once they were all ready, we headed down to the pool. The indoor pool was pretty nice, but if you were not swimming, it was HOT. I was sweating just sitting and watching. Steve took Ava in and she had a great time. David was happy to find that he could touch the bottom. Steve had both David and Ava on him at one point taking them all around the pool. It was not long before Ava got the chills and wanted out. I took her out, changed her diaper and clothes and tried my best to occupy her. By this time, David has discovered the jacuzzi. He and Steve had a real blast in there. I thought for sure it would be too hot, but apparently I was wrong. I was losing the Ava battle, so I took her back up to the room and left David and Steve to soak in the jacuzzi. The heat must have gotten to the boys, because they were back at the room shortly after us. Once Dad was finished his work for the day, we traveled to Bordentown for dinner at Chickies n Pete's. Unfortunately the kids fell asleep in the car on the ride over, so dinner was not very relaxing. The food was still delicious. Even David ate his chicken fingers and enjoyed the honey mustard sauce. Ava loved my cheesesteak, but overall could have done without going to dinner. Back at the hotel, we got ready for bed and watched a movie. I gave Ava a bottle and attempted to put her to sleep in the pack n play. It took a good while, but she finally went to sleep. However, she did not stay asleep. She was up at about 2 am. I tried shaking the pack n play, rocking her and changing her. Eventually I let her run around the room and I layed on the floor to try and get some rest. Wouldn't you know she fell asleep on the floor? Although she did go to sleep, I barely slept. I was cold, uncomfortable and worried about her.

Mom's Away

My Mom and her girlfriends are in Florida for the weekend visiting a friend. This is the second year she has gone on this trip. After taking care of my crazy kids day in and day out, I am glad that she gets this time away to unwind. I have to admit though, that its weird not having her around. We miss her already and she only left yesterday afternoon! I spoke to her tonight just to check in and they were having cocktails before dinner. Sounds like fun to me...

Call Wii 911

There has been a Wii emergency in our house since last night! Neither of the Wii remotes are working. We changed the batteries, pressed sync and turned off the power. This morning they still aren't working. Somehow my Mom was able to divert David's attention and he is playing computer games. I googled Wii remotes and sent her a link to the Wii customer support page about remotes. I sure hope it helps. If not, I might go home to an even crazier house than normal....if that is possible.

1 cake, 3 birthdays

Saturday my sister arrived from FL which I thought was a great opportunity to celebrate my Grandfather's birthday that was this past Thursday, Steve's birthday (we never did get to sing or blow out candles) and her 30th that was Dec. 27th (most of us missed it being in NJ and all). My Dad bought a Carvel ice cream cake, we sang and David blew out the candles. Everyone enjoyed their cake. Except me, I did not have any. Not hungry. Only side effect I am enjoying...

Do I really need feeling in my face?

Sounds like a dumb question - right? Well, this was a question that I had to ask myself again this morning when I woke up. See, yesterday morning I had no feeling from the top of my nose to my top lip. Then I started to have a tingling feeling in the same area. So, I called my doctor. He told me it was a side effect of my medication and to drop the dosage to 1 pill at night. I went into the bathroom and watched in the mirror while I moved my face - just to know that I could - and I could. By about 1 pm that afternoon, the feeling was back to normal. This morning, the same thing happened again. This time, it only lasted until about 9 am. It is a very odd feeling. I sure hope it stops. These side effects are really getting to me.

Smile pretty for the camera

I have been longing for a DSLR camera for a LOOOONNNNNGGGGGG time now. Everytime I thought about buying one, I talked myself out of it mainly because of the price. Last week I started researching prices of the Canon xti. Why the Canon xti you ask? That is the one that has been most recommended to me and the one that has taken some of the most beautiful photos I have seen. I found a great price online at Circuit City and the sale ends today. After buying some new kicks for Steve at Dick's Sporting Goods, we walked next store to Circuit City. Steve and the kids played Xbox and I went camera shopping. A lovely girl named Christina helped me out and also talked up the Canon xti. She told me all about the picture quality and memory card and even recommended the DVD so I do not have to read the manual (smart girl). I told her about the web price and the manager was able to beat that price! So, I walked out of there with a new DSLR camera, the how to DVD, a warranty and lots of memory. Now I need to set aside some time to watch the DVD before our trip to Disney in June. Yes, it sounds like a far way off, but with a full time job, a business, a husband, 2 kids, a house and a bunch of other goings on, I'll be lucky to squeeze in the time - BUT I must. I want to take all our Disney vacation photos with my new camera.

Arizona bound

That's right - the NY Football Giants are in the Superbowl! The Boettger household is extremely excited. We watched the game at my Aunt Kathy & Uncle Bob's. It was a great game and a nail biter at the end. I was so pissed when it ended up going to overtime. The outcome was the only part that mattered. My cousins Mark & Jen are Pat's fans and are expecting their first baby next week. Unfortunately, they will not be able to attend the Superbowl get together. It would have been fun to have the house divided for the big game. Maybe I can set up the webcam...

GO GIANTS!!!

R.I.P

We had to make the tough decision to put our beloved dog Zach to sleep this afternoon. Two large tumors had formed in his mouth and he could no longer eat. He was miserable and not himself. He was our friend and family member for 11 years and 3 months. We will miss him very much and love him always.

We're going to Disney World!

I booked the four of us a trip to Disney for the end of June. I chose that time of the year based upon the end of the school year and our friends that we met in Cancun. They emailed me around Christmas that they would be in Orlando until June 29 so I thought it would be cool to meet up with them there. Our plane tickets were pretty cheap - $198 per person (Ava is a lap child). We will call the Disney All Star Sports Report our home for 5 nights and visit not only all 4 Disney parks, but Busch Gardens Tampa as well. Steve has been begging to go to Busch Gardens for YEARS! I am SO very excited. I hope Ava likes it. She has been there once, but she was only 8 weeks old. David will really have fun. He loves the characters and the rides and I think he might be tall enough now for some of the bigger rides. I want to try some different dining places this trip. I can't wait!

Health update:
I saw my doctor last night and he told me to increase my medication to the full dose, but to notify him if any side effects increase. He gave me the OK to see the neurologist based on my family history. I called the group he recommended this morning and I have an appointment for Feb. 5.

Me time

Mom took the kids home with her after Ava woke up from her afternoon nap and Steve had to help a friend paint, so after work I was FREE! This does not happen often, in fact, I can not remembe the last time it has. I first stopped off at the Rutgers bookstore to exchange a Christmas gift - then headed home. When I got there I was shell shocked by the quiet, but managed to make my way upstairs to change so I could peacefully walk on the treadmill. I then took the most relaxing shower in the last 4 years and 7+ months. After I got dressed, I hung a piece of art in my bedroom that had been sitting on my floor waiting to be hung and went downstairs. There, I put together my new desk chair. It was pretty easy to assemble an it matches the kitchen pretty nicely. Just as I settled in with a cup of tea, I get a call from my Mom. She is on her way home with Ava. Ava was NOT doing the sleepover thing, so instead, Mom slept over my house. David wanted to stay with Gramps, so he did and I again had a great nights sleep.

This afternoon I go back to my doctor for a check on my meds and pain. I'll let you know what he says.

Happy Birthday Grandpop!

The good & the bad

I have a little of both types of news. I'll begin with the bad so I can end on a high note. We were informed last night that we need to put our dog Zach to sleep. He has 2 tumors is his mouth and he is wasting away to nothing. He was once 85 lbs and is down to almost 50 lbs. He is constantly drooling blood and is so NOT himself. I will say, that he had a LONG life. He is a boxer and their life expectancy is about 9 years and he is 11 1/2 years old. Up until about November, he still acted like a puppy - jumping, licking and following you around. You could really see his decline. We have decided to put him down sometime next week. Steve and I are pretty sad. Even more sad than I thought I would be, but we know it's time and know we are doing the right thing.

Now on to happier gooder (as David would say) news. David slept in his OWN bed ALL night! He told me as he was eating his dinner (banana) that he was going to sleep in his bed and he did it! I had such a better nights sleep because of it too...
If he would just go to sleep at 8 pm instead of 10 pm, I'd be all set.

Yankees Fantasy Camp Report:
Rich text pix me a photo of Homer Bush's World Series Ring - too cool!

I am thinking about hiring The Tatooed Mama to create me a new Blog template....any thoughts?
I visited Mrs. Parker this morning and she is missing - anyone seen her?

Rich - the BEST brother-in-law EVER

So my cell phone rings tonight and I see that it's my brother in law Rich calling. I know he is in FL at Yankees fantasy camp so I answer the phone hoping he is all in one piece. He is - thank God - but that is not the news. The news is that Tino Martinez was the dinner guest this evening and each person in attendance got to meet him and have 2 items signed. Rich had his bat signed and a baseball FOR ME!!!! Yes, TO ME personally. I am SO thrilled I can hardly wait for him to come home. Of course I had to ask how he looked and Rich assured me he was handsome and fit as ever. What other brother in law would do those things?

I love that man ;)

Liars!

We woke up this morning to NO SNOW. Not even a flurry. Steve got a call to go in for 5:30 am, and he did. FOR NO GOOD REASON. David was so disappointed. I guess I was kind of happy because I did not have to deal with slush and bad drivers on my commute. I just wish if the weather man says it's going to snow and it doesn't he be held accountable. If I told my boss that we were having a meeting in Newark on Tuesday and he drove up there and the meeting was in Somerset I would be in trouble. Ya get where I am going with this???

One step closer

The NY Football Giants are one step closer to the Superbowl! They beat the Dallas Cowboys today and will play the Green Bay Packers next weekend. If they beat the Pack - it's off to AZ! Let's go Giants...

Right before the game started, Holly put some honey caramel highlights in my hair. They look awesome! Holly is great. Not only with hair, but as a person. She reminds me a lot of myself when I first met Steve. I think she is the one for John. I am so happy for the both of them.

Last night Jen threw Mark a surprise 3oth birthday party at my Aunt and Uncle's house. I took the kids, but Steve could not go - he had to work. The party was great. Mark was SO surprised. Plus, the Pats won & he's a big fan, so that was a huge plus. Mark and Jen's friends were great - they loved playing with the kids. Their next big event is the birth of the baby - I know I can't wait!

Well, tonight's rumor is snow. If it snows, it better be enough to keep me home with the kids:)

TGIF!

I was PAIN FREE today!! I can not tell you how happy that makes me. I guess the Topamax is doing it's job. My only gripe is that I just do not feel like myself. I feel a tad off my game and by the time I got home from work I was nauseous and exhausted. I wonder if those are side effects?

Steve dealt David a serious blow tonight when he took away his Wii -YIKES! It all started when it was time for pizza and David would not come into the kitchen. He was warned that the Wii was at risk and he still ignored us. So, Steve marched into the den and away went the Wii. I agree that he needs to be taught a lesson and to know we are no joke, but my heart did break for the little addict ;)

Second Opinion

I was sitting at my desk on Tuesday when I felt a pain in my right cheek. As the day went on, it got worse. I took some Advil, but is gave me no relief. So, I called my doctor and was given an appointment for after work. At the appointment we discussed a few things, mainly the pain in my face. One of the other topics was my migraine headaches. He upped my Imitrex dosage and called in into my pharmacy. As for the pain, he thought I could have one of my famous sinus infections or trigeminal neuralgia. As always, the pain had subsided when I was in his office. The plan was for me to call him if it occured again. That night I felt fine. We took Steve out for his birthday and all was good. Yesterday morning, however, I felt worse than I had on Tuesday. So, on my way into work, I called my Dr. back. Over the phone he diagnosed me with trigeminal neuralgia and called topomax and vicodin into the pharmacy. I could not wait to take the pain meds because I was in SO much pain. My co-worker thought I was going to jump out a window. The topomax is a preventative drug that he has me taking before bed. I took the pain pills with my lunch and after about a half hour, I felt better. Only problem was, I felt sick to my stomach and jittery. When I got home, I was so tired I passed out on the couch. The pain never came back last night and I took the topomax before bed. This morning I woke up fine, brushed my teeth and took a shower feeling fine. The pain started again while I was getting ready for work. Specifically after fixing my hair. When I got into the office, I called and made a dentist appointment. Basically to rule out TMJ and teeth issues. As I write to you now, I am in horrible pain. I am debating whether or not to take the pain meds. I know the pain will subside, but do I really want the side effects? I am also a nervous wreck. According to the information I found online, this condition is a potential sign of MS, a tumor or an aneurysm. I asked my doctor if I could see a nuerologist, but he wants to wait a week to see how I do on the topomax. I am not patient. I hate waiting. I need to know things now.

**UPDATE: Went to the dentist. He found that my jaw muscles are spazzing however, there is nothing wrong dentally. Whatever is going on with my nerve is causing my jaw muscle to spaz. UGH!!

Happy 35th to my Hubby!!

Today is Steve's 35th Birthday. We are going out to Outback Steakhouse for dinner later to celebrate. He loves Outback as does David - so hopefully we can get David to actually EAT dinner. The kids and I picked him up some cute cards and gifts. I wanted to stop after work and pick up one more thing - hopefully I'll have time. I still remember Steve's 23rd birthday like it was yesterday. That was the first birthday he celebrated after we started dating. He is as cute today as he was 12 years ago.

Happy Birthday Babe!

I love you.

Ava's 1st Hair Cut

Sunday after my cousin Jen's baby shower, Holly came over to give Ava her first trim. Holly, for those of you that do not know, is my cousin John's girlfriend. She is also a very talented hair stylist. She was kind enough to offer her services to Ava. When we arrived back at my house, Ava was napping. Holly asked me if I wanted my haircut and I said 'Sure'. I showed her a few pictures from back in 2004 of when I had a shorter style and after a few minutes - she knew just what she was going to do. After she was done cutting, it looked as though there was a small dead animal on my floor - but the cut was great! We even checked it out with 2 mirrors so I could see the back. Ava woke up even before Holly was done with my hair, so we plopped her on my lap right away. Poor Holly had to deal with Ava being VERY uncooperative, but in the end - trimmed her up nice. Here are some photos to show you how we look...

I sure hope you had a great New Year's and are enjoying the start of 2008. The end of 2007 was rough for our family. From the middle of December on, we were all some sort of sick. David had an ear infection, I had what I think was the flu, Ava had walking pneumonia and Steve had a virus. We all seem to be on the mend. I take the kids back to the doctor tomorrow for their re-checks.

Having said all that, Christmas was almost cancelled! Thanks to Steve, we went on with the show. Steve spent Christmas Eve food shopping, cleaning and cooking. He literally saved Christmas. Everyone that ate dinner at our house raved about his meatballs, sausage and lasagna. I was so sick, I had to wait to enjoy them as left overs. They were just as good a few days later.

The kids had a great holiday. David got everything on his list and then some. Ava did well also, but is still too young to really get excited. David has been playing with all his gifts, especially the Wii. Steve and I also enjoy it. The sports games are a blast. Ava has been enjoying her MP3 player and babies. She is a true girl. It's a lot of fun to watch the kids play together, they are really enjoying each other.

Saturday we went to PA to celebrate Christmas with Tray, Rich and the kids. I love giving gifts more than receiving - especially with Tray and the kids. The kids loved the stuff we got them. Ty was thrilled with his scrapbook. He wanted to scrap right away! Tracey liked all her stuff too. She is planning a day of pamering! Steve and I got a beautiful blanket with a picture of the 4 kids on it. We love it. Rich presented Steve with his fantasy football winnings. Steve was very excited and looking forward to next season. Tracey cooked a delicious dinner and then we headed back to NJ. I really wish we lived closer.

We spent New Year's Eve with Laurie, Walter and Tom again this year. We ate dinner at the Olive Garden and went back to our house for coffee. The kids had a blast playing and the adults enjoyed the company. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with Laurie. She always makes me laugh and lets me vent. They left about 9 pm and I fell fast asleep on the couch. I woke up about 20 to 12 and saw the ball drop - then back to bed for me. New Year's Day we had breakfast at the diner, ran some errands and took down the tree. It was a nice enjoyable day off.

Jackie is at the house today for watching the kids while my parents are in FL. She has them again tomorrow and Friday it's my Grandparents turn. I know the kids are having fun with her. She is a real sweetheart.

Alright, well, that's all for now. Enjoy the New Year!
